Starting Wednesday, Walmart said it will sell select 12-pound turkeys for less than $5. The announcement is part of a major chain-wide holiday price slashing strategy.

?We?re proving that we?re committed to helping moms afford the holidays in these tough economic times,? said Jack Sinclair, executive vice president, groceries, Walmart. ?That?s why we?re offering incredible pricing on the turkey and all the fixings.?

What about helping dads? I still can't stand Walmart.

USC is not the Holiday turkey buyer demographic. You on the other hand have a family to feed.

SC will be looking for a bottle of wine instead.

Acutally, I have finagled the best cheapest turkey this way:

1. Don't eat turkey for Thanksgiving. Eat something smaller and tastier.

2. After Thanksgiving (1-4 days, depending on how long it takes the store to mark them down), go to the grocery store. The fresh turkeys are harshly marked down. I got myself a delicious organic turkey for $5 this way from Albertsons one year - it was delicious. Different year, got a delicious huge bird (20+ lbs) from Costco and cooked it and split it with a friend - I forget the price, but it was like $6 each or something like that after we split the cost.

Grandpa will be doing the turkey buying and preparation....I'll just do the eating and watching of football on Turkey Day. :)
